Statistics indicate that if a child participates in music, he or she is likely to earn higher grades and score better on standardized tests. Now there is powerful scientific evidence of a cause and effect link between music instruction and intelligence.
PLD's Mastering Musicianship Program, known as M2, provides for individual music lessons over a 11-week session each semester. The advantages to this program are cost and convenience. The rate for private lessons in Lexington can range from $20 to upwards of $45 per half-hour. The M2 program at PLD is only $193 for the 11-week session, and private instruction takes place in the practice rooms at PLD, under the direction of highly qualified vocal instructors.
Lessons are arranged to accommodate student needs. This coming spring semester lessons will occur Mondays 3:30-6:30 PM & Wednesdays 3:30-6:30 PM.

M2 Voice Recital - Tuesday, May 27, 6PM
Mezzo-soprano, Kaylee Piatt, is a second year D.M.A student at University of Kentucky. She is a classical and contemporary professional singer and director. Kaylee was WAUMC’s Adult Choir director in Milwaukee, WI from 2019-2022. She conducted alongside Dr. Everett McCorvey in Mt. Sterling’s Advent Musicale in 2022 and 2023. She has been the voice instructor at PLD for 5 semesters. Recently she has performed the roles of Mrs. McClean (Susannah) and Madame Flora (The Medium). Kaylee was awarded 2nd place in Kentucky’s National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition in 2022 and now serves as an adjudicator. She was last seen performing with FIO Italia in La Medium (Baba Flora) and Suor Angelica (La Zia Principessas) last summer. Upcoming, she will be playing the role of Karin in A Nation of Others: Operatic World Premiere at University of Kentucky. Kaylee has been teaching private voice and directing ensembles for 9 years and loves teaching vocal technique in all styles.
Malia Ewen, an aspiring vocalist who has a passion for music and the arts, was born in Brooklyn, New York where she learned to play the violin and piano. She started voice lessons to help her with her dream of becoming an opera musician up until she was accepted into Oakwood University. At Oakwood, she enhanced her vocal ability while continuing to perform in opera scenes and musicals locally. To date, she has performed as Lakmé in Lakmé by Léo Delibes, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, Claire in William Grant Still’s Troubled Island, Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors by Alan Menken, main singing roles in Smokey Joe’s Cafe by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and roles in the musical In the Heights by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Malia has also co-directed and co-choreographed Shrek the Musical JR. for the Olivet Boys and Girls club in Reading, PA where she has also managed the club’s children’s choir and taught guitar to young students throughout her high school and college career. Malia currently studies Opera/Vocal Performance at the University of Kentucky. She hopes to continue to impact the lives of young students in a positive way, and give back to her community in any way she can.
